The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. 3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. robot vacuums reviews comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
